<dc:content>
I know a lot of people are looking forward to the upcoming 2025 movies that will thrill fan of every genre, as well as aficionados who love the work of both Chris Hemsworth and The Russo Brothers. While Avengers: Doomsday looks to start shooting next spring, it appears the directing siblings also gave a promising update on Extraction 3’s status!

But while the sequel to one of best action movies seems to be chugging along, this news has me worried another Netflix property the Russos have on their dance card may be forgotten in the shuffle.

Extraction 3 Is Further Along Than You Thought

Collider spoke with the Avengers: Endgame directors during their time at New York Comic-Con, as they were on hand to promote their upcoming movie The Electric State. It was during this sit-down that Joe Russo started spreading the news on the follow-up to the rad action in Extraction 2, and there was quite a bit revealed for an early tease.

Going over a timetable for production, as well as teasing what may be a part of the story, Russo had this to say:

We're in the middle of working on that story right now. Hard at work. We're hoping to go into production on it next year. It's definitely filming next year. I'm just being cagey because it's more fun. … If you like that relationship between Idris [Elba] and Chris [Hemsworth], you're gonna enjoy Extraction 3.

Joe Russo, Collider

Well damn, it looks like I seriously need to get a move on and watch both Extraction movies so I can prepare properly for this next chapter. Just the prospect of Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth kicking all sorts of ass in the field has me getting a bit more hyped myself. That excitement comes at a cost though, as this Netflix project seems like yet another obstacle that comes between myself and another Russo Brothers franchise that hasn’t seen much movement as of late.

Are We Ever Going To Get That Sequel To The Gray Man?

It’s been almost two years since I wrote my The Gray Man review, hoping to see more Court Gentry action in the foreseeable future. Now here I am, bracing my heart for some sort of cancellation news, as there still seems to be zero movement on what was once a promising front. Back in 2022, mere days after the first film’s premiere on Netflix, The Gray Man’s franchise announcement pledged to keep playing in what might still be considered Netflix’s most expensive film.

This, in turn, gave way to Scott Stuber’s Gray Man update from late 2023, in which he seemed to walk things back ever so slightly. Citing the need to “slow down” and think about how to bring Ryan Gosling and other surviving cast members back in a meaningful way, I can definitely see that as a valid concern. At the same time, why should there have been any announcement behind future installments if development was in such a tenuous state?

I know that potential franchises are propped up and discarded on a semi-regular basis in the current market, so The Gray Man’s potential fadeout isn’t that surprising. That being said, as The Russo Brothers are about to rejoin the MCU with the upcoming Marvel movies Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, adding Extraction 3 to the docket only makes this prospect seem that much further away.

At least we’re getting some more Idris Elba action in this new Netflix sequel. And if you want to see why everyone’s so worked up over both Extraction pictures, you can head over to your Netflix subscription and stream them both back to back. As for Extraction 3, there’s no set release date, so we’ll just have to wait and hear what’s next in the world of Tyler Rake.

However, Love is Blind Season 7 is ruining that illusion and killing the vibes.

The season is going really well for those who enjoy reality TV show drama but not great for those who want to believe love is blind and everlasting. Love is Blind Season 7 is a disaster, and we must discuss it.

Warning Love Is Blind Season 7 Spoilers Are Ahead.
Why Are So Many Couples Incompatible?

Love is Blind Season 7 has a ton of couples. It almost feels like the most of any season. This is a good thing because this gives the series a few extra chances to try to have a successful love story from this season. Heaven knows they’re struggling to find one that may work out. The pod days in Love is Blind Season 7 made most couples seem like they would thrive as a pair. They had all the sweet charm of people falling in love for the first time. This made these couples endearing and ones you wanted to see find love and happiness.

However, the early pod stages weren’t without some red flags, but they didn’t seem red enough for what would eventually happen with many of these Love is Blind couples. Once they left the pods, the real drama began. Not a single couple from Season 7 has had smooth sailing with their romance. Some major issues have surfaced. It all comes down to not many of them actually being compatible.

I don’t know what went wrong in the pods but these contestants obviously didn’t ask the right questions. Some glaring issues were ignored or completely missed. This adds a bit of comedy to Love is Blind Season 7 because the whole purpose of the experiment is to find someone you’re compatible with without the distraction of physical attraction. These contestants failed the most important part of the show.

Is Anyone Going To Make It To The Altar?

Before the Love is Blind Season 7 finale, we have already witnessed three relationships implode even before the altar part. Then there was another romance that the producers didn’t even bother to follow (yes, according to Netflix, they also broke up). We’re down to three couples to see if they say “I do.”

It’s not looking great for most of these pairs because major issues still plague their romances. These issues include secret children, disagreeing about the military service, meddling parents, and insecurities about the strength of the relationship.

The Love is Blind Season 7 success statistics may end on a low. I could see none of the remaining couples getting married, all of them, one of them, or some of them, and I wouldn’t be surprised. It just isn’t a triumphant season for those who have faith in the Love is Blind process. It seems extremely flawed this year.

I Can't Believe All The Scandals

Love is Blind Season 7 has so many scandals that could rival some of the greatest reality TV show moments. The biggest one involves Tyler’s secret children. He donated sperm to a gay couple so they could have children. This is a kind gesture but he lied to Ashley about it. He didn’t let her know about the children until after their pods’ courtship, and the situation, including just how involved Tyler actually is in the children's lives, has continued to be a topic of discussion outside the show.

Another major scandal of Love is Blind Season 7 involves Monica and Stephen. After their engagement, Stephen began texting sexually explicit messages to some random woman. This immediately made Monica call off their wedding. Love is Blind is no stranger to scandals and controversy but this season may reach the hall of fame in terms of shocking twists and turns. A scripted soap opera couldn’t even match this season’s level of drama and mouth-dropping reveals.

The Season Starts With A Ridiculous Amount Of Love Triangles

Love is Blind Season 1 had a very famous love triangle/love square. So the series has had many of them throughout the years. However, Love is Blind Season 7 seemed to showcase quite a few of them, but the main love triangle/square involved Hannah, Nick, Leo, and Brittany. Hannah eventually ends up with Nick (which doesn’t last) and Leo ends up with Brittany (which also doesn’t last).

Everyone this season seemed to want to keep their options open. This is a healthy way to approach romance in the pods but seemed to be a bad sign for potential couples. Many may even regret their decisions if their engagements don’t work out. I hate love triangles, fictional or real, so I prefer watching Love is Blind couples who become immediately obsessed with each other and everyone else becomes irrelevant to them. This is how the romance happened with many of the successful Love is Blind couples. Therefore, I didn’t enjoy watching all the love triangles this season.

The Issues Seem More Serious Than Normal

Often, the Love is Blind issues feel trivial, like a small age gap. However, sometimes they are more serious matters, such as lack of attraction, financial stress from the relationship, and cultural differences. Season 7 has quite a bit of serious issues, including infidelity, mean behavior, disagreeing on vital partnership things, lack of communication, and the previously mentioned secret children.

These issues are huge and make me completely understand why many of these couples break up before the altar. It convinces me that these contestants should have worked on themselves before trying to find a life partner. Some self-reflection and therapy could have saved everyone some time.

Love Is Blind Season 7 Makes The Show Seem Like It's Losing Its Initial Purpose

I loved Love is Blind UK because it felt like the series went back to basics. The focus was on finding love and presenting these almost too-good-to-be-true love stories. In recent seasons, it has felt like Love is Blind has gotten too preoccupied with drama and lost some of the magic of earlier seasons.

Season 7 proves that the series has very much lost its way. I enjoy reality TV drama but I also enjoyed Love is Blind Season 1 when it was mainly about seeing if the experiment works. The current season seems heavily skewed towards drama and not the enchantment of falling in love with someone’s soul and personality. In fact, the series got so much attention that NBC greenlit the spinoff Suits L.A., which will star Arrow’s Stephen Amell as lead character Ted Black and is expected to premiere on the 2025 TV schedule. While I’m certainly looking forward to another corner of the Suits universe being opened up, Amell has revealed he has another TV show on the way, and frankly, I’m might be more excited about this small screen offering.

Taking to his Instagram account, Amell shared a screenshot of a Deadline article reporting that he’ll be teaming up with Minnie Driver and Hamza Haq for a crime series called Underbelly, which included a first look at Amell’s character, Officer Henry Roland. The six-part series, which will be housed on the Canadian streaming service Crave, hails from Shaftesbury, the production company behind shows like Murdoch Mysteries and Hudson & Rex. Amell, who’s also one of Underbelly’s executive producers, previously worked with Shaftesbury years before he became known around the world for playing Oliver Queen in the Arrowverse, which he highlighted in his post’s caption:

I first worked with Shaftesbury almost 20 years ago. It’s a real privilege to be back with them in a starring role. (It’s also my first chance to be an Executive Producer!! What were they thinking?!) We have a terrific cast and a wonderful team behind us. Underbelly is a ton of fun. Please don’t let your kids watch it under any circumstances whatsoever, but ya, it’s a ton of fun!! Stay tuned.

ReGenesis is the show Stephen Amell is alluding to, as he appeared in two episodes as a character named Craig Riddlemeyer. Now the time has come for him to lead his own Shaftesbury-produced series, and he’s clearly jazzed that it will be released soon, although this is one of those shows you shouldn’t have children watch. Fifth Season is co-financing and distributing Underbelly, and the series is being presented to international buyers at MIPCOM, so hopefully we’ll learn soon which streaming service it will end up on in the United States.

Created by Saving Hope’s Graeme Stewart, Underbelly takes place in the 1000 Islands region, where there’s a river that forms a border between Canada and the United States. Amell’s Henry Roland discovers evidence linking a case of missing illegal substances to Hamza Haq’s Tommy Hawley, Henry’s childhood best friend. As he carries out his mission to save Tommy and find the substances, Henry will run afoul of a British crime family led by Minnie Driver’s Mary Ferguson. Other cast members include Reservation Dogs’ Tamara Podemski, Van Helsing’s Christopher Heyerdahl, Katia Edith Wood, Jeremy Watson and Diego Klattenhoff.

Like I said earlier, I’m eager to watch Suits L.A., but as someone who watches the occasional crime series, Underbelly sounds like it’ll be a gripping watch. Plus, it sounds like this is a limited series rather than ongoing, so six episodes isn’t much of a time commitment. Now I’ll just wait to see where Underbelly ends up once it’s stateside and if I’m subscribed to its streaming home.

That's in great part because Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the supernatural hero, faces monsters like the Demogorgan and demodogs with ease. However, while she's pretty cool, calm and collected on screen, behind the scenes, it's different as she opened up about the fact that she's genuinely terrified of Jamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna, or more so, his costume.

Amid production on Stranger Things' fifth season, Brown attended The Upside Down event the Epic Cons, and she shared her take on the scary Vecna costume. In a clip from the panel posted by @schylerdixon on TikTok, the young star humorously talked about her Hawkin Lab friend-turned-enemy's costume and her general dislike of items covering other peoples’ faces. She shared:

I'm terrified of his costume, it scares me. I don't like masks, which is crazy because I'm at Comic-Con, but I don't like people covering their faces, it freaks me out. It's definitely a phobia, and I've had it since I was little. And so he comes onto set, and I'm like 'Who is that?' They're like 'It's Jamie.' I'm like 'That's not Jamie, that is a Gremlin that lives in my closet and is waiting for me to fall asleep to kill me.' And they're like 'No, no it's Jamie.' I'm like 'No, I'm not coming on the set.' So, I go in my tent, I literally sob. And Jake [Bongiovi], he's like 'You gotta calm down. It's fine, you're gonna be fine. You have to find something that reminds you of Jamie.' And I'm like 'Nothing reminds me of Jamie! He has slimy hands and feet. It was horrible!' So, then I close my eyes, and I smell on [Jamie's] breath cigarettes, and I was like 'That's Jamie.'

Luckily for Brown, she found something to diffuse her fear of the Vecna costume. I don’t think anyone can blame her for being scared, though, especially with the knowledge that the nightmarish villain was inspired by Game of Thrones’ own icy antagonist. He's truly terrifying, plus he'll likely only get scarier, as Stranger Things Season 4's finale only marked the beginning of the end.

Now, I can't wait to see if there are more stories like this coming down the line as we get closer to Stranger Things Season 5.

While we don’t know much about Season 5 yet, we do know that this will be the end of the series and that there's a whole lot of hype surrounding the long-awaited conclusion and the fate of these beloved characters. We also assume that Vecna will continue to play a massive role in the series, so I'm happy Millie Bobby Brown found a way to handle her fear of the scary costume.

Now, to go back and see the costume that understandably freaked the Eleven actress out, you can stream the first four seasons of Stranger Things with a Netflix subscription. Then, stay tuned for more updates about Season 5 that will hopefully include more fun (and freaky) stories like this one.

They were at it again this past weekend, as Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian all walked the red carpet at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’s fourth annual gala on October 19. While Kylie drew much of the attention in a stunning sheer top, why are we not talking about Kendall being the new blonde bombshell?

The members of the first family of reality TV are known for their signature dark brown hair, but all of the sisters have gone blonde (or sometimes pink) at one point or another. As the Jenner sisters coordinated their outfits for the annual museum fundraiser and celebration of filmmaking, it was the younger who had mouths agog with her black-and-nude ensemble, but let’s just say Kendall was holding her own, sporting an old Hollywood hairdo in a lighter-than-normal hue. See for yourself below:

Looking at that photo, Kendall pulls off blonde so naturally! That color, especially styled like that with a deep side part and curls framing her face, is simply flawless perfection. It’s the perfect look to complement her long black velvet gown.

The halter dress with cutouts over the torso is fresh off the runway, Harper’s Bazaar reports, from Schiaparelli’s spring 2024 collection. Aside from the brooch on her dress and a pair of large diamond stud earrings, Kendall Jenner was absent any other pieces of jewelry, and honestly, I don’t think she needed anything else.

That’s especially true when she was seen next to sister Kylie Jenner. Despite my shock that more people weren’t drooling over Kendall’s drastic hair change, I completely understand what all the fuss was about when it came to Kylie.

The youngest KarJenner flaunted her figure in a vintage 1998 Mugler gown. The sleeveless top was sheer fabric, with a cup providing some modesty under a sea of clear sequins. The black fabric of her skirt started above her waist, forming cutouts over her hips — creating a look not unlike the thong-baring trend of the 2000s — before streaming to the floor.

Kylie Jenner kept her dark locks for the event, wearing her long waves over one shoulder, allowing her green earrings to show through. She also kept it fairly simple accessory-wise with a nude manicure and a pink lip that was, as always, on point.

Kim Kardashian was also there with her little sisters, and she — like Kylie — went the Mugler route. However, the American Horror Story actress chose to forgo a dress altogether, donning a structured white corset, which she covered slightly with a matching hooded jacket. She showed off the look on Instagram, and whereas her sisters wanted the focus on their dresses rather than any jewels, Kim had no dress to speak of, so she flaunted a gorgeous diamond statement necklace, earrings and several rings.

This family never fails to kill it on the red carpet, and anyone looking to go behind the scenes of their lives and careers can check out The Kardashians with a Hulu subscription while we wait for a new season to hit the 2024 TV schedule.

It was announced late last year that SEAL would be ending after Season 7, and the show mostly managed to give closure to Bravo amid the 2024 TV schedule. Now, EP Spencer Hudnut is revealing just how far Season 7 was written ahead of the cancellation news coming down.

While series star David Boreanaz was ready for SEAL Team to end, that doesn’t mean the decision was made right away. The series was renewed for a seventh season in January 2023, with news of its demise coming that November. That’s an awfully long time between the renewal and cancellation and unfortunately, enough time to get pretty far into the script without knowing the end was coming. That's what happened, as Spencer Hudnut told TVLine that Season 7 was nearly completed by the time Paramount+ decided to axe the show:

When we broke this season, at the point it was 90% written, I did not have an inkling that this would be the last one. It really wasn’t until very late in the process that I realized this was going to be it, and I really only had three acts of the final episode to ‘land the plane.'

It’s certainly not ideal for a development like that to come in the midst of writing a series finale. Chances are that if the producer had known from the jump that the show would be ending, much of the season -- including the finale -- would've been different. At the very least, Spencer Hudnut did find out before writing was done, which wasn't as bad as finding out after the script was completed. After all, the series finale of SEAL still wrapped up stories and provided characters with closure, even splitting up some of Bravo. Even if it wasn’t the ending that Hudnut might have had in mind, I still dug it.

What probably helped was the fact that the first part of the season had already set up several characters to move on or put them on paths that would make them take a closer look at what they were doing. However, Spencer Hudnut did admit that David Boreanaz’s Jason received “a different ending than where I intended at the outset of the season.” Regardless of that, the final episodes were still emotional -- and accompanied by sentimental posts from the SEAL Team cast.

Something that was disappointing, though, was that due to his busy schedule on Fire Country, Max Thieriot was unable to appear on SEAL's final season. Granted, his character did die in Season 6, but there was still hope that he could still return as Clay Spenser in a flashback or a dream sequence. At the very least, Clay was mentioned from time to time, and Alona Tal continued to appear as the character's wife, Stella.

I do wonder how SEAL Team's series finale would've played out if the writers had had more notice. Also, I'm thinking about how the plot would've changed if an eighth season had been ordered. Regardless, Spencer Hudnut deserves credit for working with the hand he was dealt. Anyone with a Paramount+ subscription can stream all seven seasons of the military drama now.

                                                                                                                <dc:content>
Season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer finally premiered a few days ago, and surprise, surprise, the show is already the No. 1 watched series on the streamer – at least in the U.S. I knew the show would dominate when it finally returned as part of the 2024 Netflix schedule, but I honestly wasn’t expecting it to blow one other returning drama out of the water. That returning series would be none other than Outer Banks.

Now, I’d be remiss if I didn’t note The Lincoln Lawyer has a little bit of a leg up here. The streamer premiered Season 3 of the Mickey Haller drama on October 17–a whopping week after the Season 4 premiere of Outer Banks hit the schedule to 15.5 million views. Our weekend box office column about new movie releases often makes it clear how “new” content usually outpaces the old on opening weekend though, for example.

However, there are some shows on Netflix that manage to be so popular they land that #1 slot on the streamer for weeks on end. I kind of thought Outer Banks was in that higher tier of content, given some of the numbers bandied about in the past. (The first season of the drama allegedly did more than 2.1 billion minutes of views when Netflix made the initial announcement; Netflix has since changed the way it announces numbers.)

This Isn't The First Time The Lincoln Lawyer Has Beat Out Another Heavy Hitter

Still, this is the second time The Lincoln Lawyer has come in and quietly dethroned another major Netflix show. In 2023 when the show aired Season 2, it came in and beat The Witcher for that top slot on the streamer’s rankings. At the time, the then-Henry Cavill led series had already been running for two weeks, but it’s still a feat the show has now knocked a behemoth out of a top slot twice during its return weekend.

Right now, given its status at #1, The Lincoln Lawyer is not only beating Outer Banks, but it is also beating newcomer series Nobody Wants This, which, despite its title, streamers certainly seem to want to watch. It’s also beating Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and the new season of The Great British Bake Off. So this isn’t a situation where there’s not much that’s new on Netflix right now. The courtroom drama is outranking some heavy hitters.

In short, The Lincoln Lawyer is quite popular. If you haven’t given it a watch yet, the courtroom drama is dramatic and punches above its weight when it comes to courtroom shenanigans, mostly due to an interesting performance from its lead Manuel Garcia-Rolfo. Diddy” Combs is still facing various legal issues stemming from lawsuits. Since Combs’ arrest in New York in September, he’s been incarcerated in the Brooklyn-based Metropolitan Detention Center, where he’s awaiting trial. All the while, the 54-year-old rapper’s legal team has been speaking out on his behalf. Diddy’s famous friends have remained mostly mum on the matter but, now, his family is speaking out. More specifically, most of his children shared a message and didn’t hold back on the backlash their father has faced.

How Did Diddy’s Children Support Him Amid His Legal Woes?

On Tuesday, six of Diddy’s kids – Quincy Brown, Christian "King" Combs, Justin Dior Combs, Chance Combs, Jessie Combs and D'Lila Combs – collaborated on a message that was shared to Instagram. Said statement was posted by Brown (who was adopted by the Sean John Founder) and it provided insight into how the rapper’s kids are doing right now. While noting that their family has been “devastated” over the past month, they also called out those who’ve chastised their dad on social media:

The past month has devastated our family. Many have judged both him and us based on accusations, conspiracy theories, and false narratives that have spiraled into absurdity on social media. We stand united, supporting you every step of the way. We hold onto the truth, knowing it will prevail, and nothing will break the strength of our family. WE MISS YOU & LOVE YOU DAD.

In addition to the caption, the post also included a photo with P. Diddy alongside his seven children. (The “Bad Boy for Life” star is also the father to 1-year-old Love Sean Combs.) Diddy’s kids previously showed support for him throughout his legal woes, as they shared supportive messages for him this past Father’s Day as he faced lawsuits. This latest statement would seem to indicate that they’re standing firmly alongside their dad.

What’s Going On With Sean Combs’ Situation Now?

Much of the past year has seen Sean Combs wrapped up in an investigation linked to sex trafficking. It’s for that reason that this past March, his LA and Miami homes were raided by federal agents, who recovered electronic devices, legal documents and bottles of lubricant among other items. King and Justin Combs were present amid one of the raids, during which they had lasers pointed at them and were temporarily detained by officials representing the Department of Homeland Security.

P. Diddy was ultimately taken into custody based on the findings. A 14-page indictment that’s been made public details a number of allegations against the mogul. As it stands, Diddy is facing charges of alleged sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, racketeering, arson and more. Much of the attention has also been on the alleged “freak offs” that the music producer would hold. Said events were said to have featured young women (who were allegedly coerced) performing sexual acts for guests as they were recorded.

Weeks ago, attorney Tony Buzbee announced that he was representing 120 plaintiffs with claims against Sean Combs, and those suits have started to trickle down. The first wave of lawsuits against Diddy included claims of rape, drugging and more amongst six people – four men and two women – between 1995 and 2021. This week also saw another suit surface, which alleged that Combs sexually assaulted a 13-year-old at a post-VMAs party in 2000. Combs himself has denied wrongdoing.

A trial date has been set for Diddy, and the legal proceedings are to begin on May 5, 2025. Having been denied bail, the “Tell Me” performer will remain behind bars until the trial commences. In the meantime, though, it appears that he’ll, at the very least, have the support of his kids as he continues to face legal action and backlash.

Watch What We Do in the Shadows Season 6: Synopsis

It’s time to bid farewell to our batty vampire pals! Yes, FX is putting a stake through the heart of this multi Emmy-nominated series, which for six years has charted the hilarious misadventures of Nandor, Laszlo, Colin Robinson and Nadja – Staten Island’s most incompetent undead denizens. But before they go, there’s still the 9-to-5 life to try and a demon or two to conjure. Read below for how to watch What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 and steam the show’s final season from anywhere.

Holding the show together has always been Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), Nandor’s long-suffering Latino familiar. He’s not only been there to mop up after the vampires' blood-thirsty binges, but his character arc has seen the biggest trajectory. Beginning as a subservient groupie hoping Nandor would eventually turn him, he later on found out that he had kick-ass Van Helsing heritage. Then, after Derek gave him a good necking, he got to live his best The Lost Boys fantasy. Well, for all of five minutes.

Finding the whole “slaughter of the innocents” shtick too icky, this season finds Guillermo leave 760-year-old pedant Nandor (Kayvan Novak), horny English nobleman Lazlo (Matt Berry), Greek Romani vampire Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and energy vampire Colin (Mark Proksch) to fend for themselves. But in no time at all the immortal foursome are pestering him at his new office job.

We’ll also be introduced to old housemate Jerry (SNL’s Mike O'Brien). Who's that, you ask? He’s the “fifth beetle” of the group, who took a “super slumber” back in 1976 and never woke up! For Nandor, his revival is a galvanizing reminder that he’s spent the last 50 years naval gazing. With his warrior spirit revived, he redoubles his efforts to extend their dominion at least a little further than Ashley Street, while Nadja joins Guillermo as part of the workforce, “learning the dark arts of corporate America.”

Read for one last nibble on this sublimely silly horror comedy? It's a book-to-TV adaptation based in part on Robert R. McCammon's 1988 novel Stinger, and doesn't take long before its overarching threat is introduced, along with a mysterious gas-masked man who seems to know more than others about what's happening.

As it comes to be known, the deadly threat facing Grey's Anatomy heartthrob Scott Speedman and Dexter fave Yvonne Strahovski's Chenoweth family is not of Earthly origin. So even though this series is already known to be based in part on a pre-existing novel, it's probably not a surprise to learn that the all-time great horror movie sequel Aliens also played an inpirational role. Just probably not how you'd expect.

Speaking at a Q&A following Teacup's world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024, the cast members and creator Ian McCulloch addressed a question about their own personal horror fandom, and which projects may have been influential for this production. And it's here where the showrunner addressed how Aliens impacted the Peacock series' story, while first joking about his lack of interest in horror.

Yeah, I'm not a fan. [Laughs.] No,, I'm a fan. This series — this isn't really a spoiler — but the entire season takes place over 48 hours, and with that in mind, the episodes hover somewhere around a half an hour. So it was all about keeping the pace going, and the movie Aliens is an example where it just never lets up. And that was the goal throughout the series. So I thought about that quite a lot when writing.

Just when you thought McCulloch might just also jokingly fall back on stating the obvious by saying, "Yeah, Aliens inspired my aliens," he lays out a legitimate alternate explanation that also serves as a good push to get someone to watch the show. Half-hour genre shows with propulsive plots and limited timelines? That's an extremely rare TV commodity, and is kind of the polar opposite of the entire Alien franchise as a whole.

Amusingly enough, Scott Speedman answered next, and joked as if he was only vaguely aware that a sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien existed.

SCOTT SPEEDMAN: Aliens or Alien?

IAN MCCULLOCH: Aliens.

SPEEDMAN: Aliens. Cameron. I like The Shining a lot. I love Alien a lot, too.

MCCULLOCH: You should see the second one.

SPEEDMAN: Second one's good?

MCCULLOCH: Yeah.

The story for these tortured Texan townspeople ratcheted up a notch or two in the third and fourth episodes, and I can only imagine how much worse things could get for everyone when the next two episodes drop. Here's hoping the pacing does indeed match up with the epic action of James Cameron's sequel.

Ian McCulloch also addressed that Teacup isn't just an Under the Dome retread, either, and there technically isn't a dome or a teacup barrier involved with this series, for the sake of not just retreading story ground. But I also can't imagine Stephen King would let anyone else adapt that book after the awful CBS series, which King himself also disliked.

New episodes of Teacup are available to stream every Thursday morning with a Peacock subscription. By the time the finale comes around, if Maggie and James end up taking off and nuking the area from orbit, it'll be clear they've gone way too far with the Aliens inpirations.
